The BELONGS framework is built on lived experience and grounded in neuroscience. These Seven Anchors offer teachers a practical, relational approach to supporting children with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), trauma, or unmet emotional needs. In many classrooms, traditional behaviour management strategies fall short because they don’t address what’s really driving the behaviour. BELONGS helps educators shift from reacting to behaviour toward understanding it — creating safety, consistency, and connection. This isn’t a bolt-on initiative — it’s a culture of belonging that can transform outcomes for your most vulnerable learners.

Testimonials.

I am now in my 30th year working in comprehensive schools and I felt that I had seen and heard virtually everything… I was wrong. Without doubt your presentation has been the most moving and powerful experience that I have had in school in those many long years” Stephen Ball, Headteacher

“I’ve been a Head and CEO for 23 years, and have heard thousands of speakers. Today, you were one of the best ever presentations I’ve had the honour to hear…To hear your bravery and gratitude to your teachers was truly inspirational.”
Adrian Rogers, CEO, Chiltern Learning Trust

...What made the session particularly relevant to my work was the way Richard linked his personal journey to the realities we see every day in schools. His reflections cemented in me the profound impact a single trusted adult can have, and how the smallest acts of compassion, consistency, and belief can alter the course of a child’s life. It was a timely reminder of the responsibility—and privilege—we hold in shaping safe, nurturing environments for all pupils.
I found the practical strategies Richard shared for supporting children who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) especially valuable. They were clear, grounded in lived experience, and immediately applicable in school settings. These insights will undoubtedly help us strengthen our trauma-informed approaches and ensure that our most vulnerable learners feel seen, supported, and understood.

I would highly recommend Richard’s session to any school or leadership team. It left me with a renewed motivation.

Himi Mistry, Deputy Headteacher, Vaughan primary School, London

“Richard attended the leadership conference in January and stunned educational leaders with his inspirational and motivational message to such an extent that in June we decided to hold a town-wide event. Richard spoke to over 900 educationalists across Hartlepool schools, and once again, the message and inspiration he gave from his life story touched many in the room. Richard is so relevant to staff in education. His story helps you understand why sometimes people do things that you really don’t understand, and how you can help young people who had similar challenges and trauma in their life be successful” Mark Tilling, Headteacher, High Tunstall College.
